Overview
The City of Valley Center Planning and Zoning Board is composed of seven (7) members. Five (5) of the members live within the city limits of Valley Center and two (2) live within three (3) miles of the city's boundaries. The members of the Planning and Zoning Board are appointed by the mayor, with consent of the City Council. Board members serve three-year terms. The Planning and Zoning Board also serves as the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Responsibilities
As the Planning and Zoning Board, the members are responsible for the orderly planning and development of Valley Center and the area within three miles of the community. They accomplish this by the adaptation of the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning and Zoning Board reviews and approves rezoning, regulations amendments, subdivision items, street vacations and conditional use applications. They also review and approve all projects that require site plan review before starting construction.
As the Board of Zoning Appeals, the members are responsible for the hearing and deciding upon appeals alleging an error of a decision, as well as applications for a variances or special uses.
