Currently the City of Valley Center purchases water from the
City of Wichita. The City has one pressure booster station to control flow into the new City water tower. The water system consists of 4” to 16” piping and 22 miles of water lines, with approximately 1,900 metered services. This is in conjunction with a 750,000 gallon water tower that provides pressure to the system of about 50-55 pounds.
The City currently uses 600,000 to 800,000 gallons per day or about 250 million gallons a year. The benefits to the Citizens of Valley Center are softer water with less scaling properties and an increase of 10-15 pounds of water pressure can be expected. Valley Center will keep all of its water rights intact, due to the fact that the City of Wichita will purchase the water from our well field.
Annual Budget
The annual Water Department budget runs approximately $965,820.
The Backflow Protection Program
The Backflow Protection Program requires a backflow device on all lawn sprinklers or any other hazard deemed by the City to be harmful if it were to get into the water system.
