The Valley Center Fire Department has made fire prevention education a priority for our community, and actively participates in annual Fire Prevention Week activities.
Fire Prevention Week began as a result of the Great Chicago Fire on October 9, 1871. Fifty years later, President Wilson signed the first proclamation for the observance of National Fire Prevention Day. The day was used to promote fire prevention practices. Since 1925, the President has signed a proclamation each year declaring the week of October 9 as National Fire Prevention Week.
During Fire Prevention Week, members of the Valley Center Fire Department visit all of our public schools, spreading the message of fire safety and prevention.
